South of France

During the Summer of 2015 I had the opportunity to live in the South of France, in the town of Aix-en-Provence, Paul Cezanne’s hometown. I woke up early in the morning everyday for six weeks to paint Montagne Sainte-Victoire, a scenery that became Cezanne’s source of inspiration. Not only was color theory taught in The Marchutz School of Fine Arts, my classmates and I were completely immersed in the world of art, as we thought and discussed our own work and famous artist’s paintings as well.

A walk through the streets of Aix would open up my senses as the smell of fresh bread and the melody of the French language surrounded me. Learning how to paint made me a more observant person, as I had to sensitize myself to color and form in order to translate it to the canvas in front of me. Not only was the South of France beautiful, I truly believe my experience was as pleasant as it was because of the friendships I formed during my stay. I am grateful I got to live in a beautiful place with beautiful people.

This collection of photographs were taken in the towns of Cassis, Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer, Avignon, Saint Paul de Vence, Cannes, Nice, Eze and Aix-en-Provence.
